This is the CD cover that I designed for a song that I wrote called, ‘Diamond Ring’.
The track was penned following my engagement, while still in a state of dazed wonderment.
I figured it would make for a pretty novel wedding invitation, so recorded the track in my home studio, all apart from the live drums which were performed by ‘Cookin’ On 3 Burners’ Ivan Khatchoyan, in his studio space. The track was then mixed by Chris Scallan from The Soft Centre. As Chris has worked with major artists from KISS to Prodigy, it was an unbelievable treat getting to work alongside him. The final stereo mix was then mastered in Germany.
The artwork itself was inspired by some of the vintage 45 RPM singles that were in my grandfather’s record collection. As these all hailed from a time before rock’n’roll, there was a certain naivety and economy about the way they’d been designed which was extremely endearing.
The focus of the design was the cartoon diamond – kneeling down, diamond ring in hand – ready to propose. I wanted this to capture the aesthetic quality of the original Mickey Mouse comic book art.
And as for the wedding event particulars, they were printed on the flipside.
