Some projects just make you smile from ear to ear like a giddy Cheshire Cat.
When my good buddy – award winning Australian film and theatre director, Paul Andersen – approached me to create a Vaudeville magician’s poster for him, I knew it was going to be a plum opportunity to cast a visual spell.
Having studied the typographic, illustrational and photographic nuances that exemplified this period of vintage posters, I turned my hand to transforming the unedited source image.
This involved colourising Paul, introducing the foreboding clouds into the background and crafting the retro type treatment. I then made the whole poster look weathered.
The poster was subsequently used for Paul’s business cards too.
