It really was a case of ‘jazz hands’, when I landed the gig of shooting the Australian Jewish Music Ensemble’s Pazit CD launch.
Graced with the eminently photogenic backdrop of a hip inner-city gallery in South Melbourne, the scene was set for some bold, lurid photography, which aptly mirrored the group’s bold and sinuous interpretations of ancient Middle Eastern music.
I combined a bleach bypass effect with a saturation of the brightest colours which created some highly dynamic visual tension.
Shot from a distance I was able to capture the intensity of these master musicians, lost in the moment of creation, without physically insinuating myself into the equation.
